By the time they begin debating this bill people will forget this thing ever happened. People have already forgotten Christopher Dorner, Aurora movie theater shooting, and Newtown is slowly fading. A month from now there will be some other bad guy to look at. It's unfortunate that Republican shit heads are trying to link this to the immigration bill but it's a hollow argument. I hope the national immigrant advocate groups step up their game and keep the pressure up to pass CIR.

This might sound bad but don't take it wrong. At least the guy wasn't from south america and jumped over the border. People see the Russian name and not a Juan or Pedro. The right will try to push this but I don't think they'll have enough steam.

Also, remember the ones who are trying to use this as a reason to go against immigration reform are the same ones that were already against immigration reform and weren't going to vote for it anyway.

There's millions of people living under the radar, they have never been fingerprinted, they work "under the table" they are in many ways invisible.

While other countries have national federal ID laws, US doesn't. The states themselves choose how to manage ids.

If anything this tragedy can be used as a way to push comprehensive immigration reform further. As security is a big part of the bill and as it is now we just don't know what kind of people we have here.

What other prosperous developed country in the world has such a terrible system of immigration laws that allows millions to live undetected. If so many undocumented can live and work in this country while being completely under the radar. What can terrorist cells do with the right amount of resources? Isn't it scary just to think about that?

Countries in Europe share info about their citizens with other countries, so a criminal from one country can not get a drivers license/ID in another. U.S. can do something similar with its neighbors.

It's the year 2013 with machine readable biometric passports (which have your finger prints on it) and secure id cards and yet the US laws are so far behind that not even currently available resources are being used . Something has to be done, and that something being part of a comprehensive package makes it more likely that we will become legal sooner.

This bill has the right mix of proposals: background checks, mandatory e-verify, better border control, tighter security in general which includes tracking if people leave the country after entering with a temporary visitor (or other visas) as well as other good points.

This should not derail it. If anything it should show/tell Americans that they need to pass Immigration Reform so they can know what kind of people are living in this country. Some of them could be run away criminals and the vast majority are normal people. It's important to find out who's who and while you can't catch everyone, background checks will catch some which is so much better than nothing.

So migrating to the United States legally is now a crime? Last time i checked these two individuals came here legally, they came from the part of the world Conservatives want immigrants to come from (those words came from Trump's mouth directly) and they are even the color they want their immigrants to be...they are Citizens for Christ's sake. Yet somehow they still use illegal immigrants as an excuse for ANY bullshit that happens in the country.

How is tightening the border going to affect legal immigration? Aren't these people screened? Aren't these people welcomed? Haven't these people met all the requirements needed to come to this country already? What does border security have to do with legal immigration? These people are fucking idiots.
