I think we should not jump to conclusions until they actually release the bill. This sounds like the general legalization plan for the regular undocumented under the House Gang of 8 plan.We were saying the same thing about the Senate bill until we actually saw the language....and think we should await judgement until there is further clarity on the Dreamer path which is separate.

I think in the end Dreamers will more than likely be applying for their immediate relatives.

Under both plans it seems likely to function either as a special status for the undocumented or simply an unrestricted non-immigrant visa, both will more than likely have unrestricted travel authorization but considering the Permanent residency pathways I don't think many individuals will get there considering some of the requirements.I like the compromise idea still.

After reading about the House plan it doesn't seem to have a 'cut-off' date like the Senate bill making it apply to all undocumented.

Will this go on your criminal record? How will this affect future employment? Unless this is all just some sort of formality and we are then able to get our paperwork from USCIS, this could do more harm than good.
I think creating a criminal record for the undocumented could be the entire point of doing this. They call this "being sentenced to probation" after all.

I bet this sort of thing would scare away a number of eligible people. Which would mean there would still be a good number of people who wouldn't be paying fines or taxes as they'd choose to stay undocumented simply due to being scared of a judge deporting them. In that case it wouldn't solve the problem.

I like the House plan even less now. But in the end if they provide work permits beforehand that would still be better than nothing. But only if the Senate version fails, otherwise this shouldn't even be considered.

This is demeaning to say the least, I don't think there is enough judges for the 12 mil +.

But then again it would certainly pass the house.
Idk... could be a good solution, if its kept as a formality with no room to be deported.

Wow. Who's the smart individual(s) who came up with this go-before-a-judge idea?

would this bar individuals like ourselves from seeking public office? or how about voting? this seems like a grey area.

imagine the last illegal immigrant to appear in court at age 90, by the time he/she reaches 100 would be a US citizen. If god forbid he/she passes away the day of the oath ceremony, his/her soul will beat the shit out of republicans.

Your two posts sum up exactly how I see this, albeit I will restrain myself from posting a reply in a similar manner. It also made me laugh and nearly snorted my coffee, thank you.

I mean...no, this is too much of a joke, it's gotta be some pretend backroom deal, I just...I cannot wait to see Gutierrez et.al come out and publicly defend this s**t with a straight face.

This invalidates the so-called "proceedings" review that DHS/DOJ started nearly two years ago, which they still have NOT finished, because they never issued guidance for those they'd already ordered deported, and they supposedly 'only' had 300,000+ cases. Two years on and is still "ongoing". Hahahahahahaha. But they want to prosecute all 11 million immigrants in immigration court? Wow. This is a sicko obsession with making people "pay" and branding people with a formal "I" for illegal. I cannot believe it's come down to this low of a level. I mean, the Senate bill is already shit when you have to really wait 20+ years for citizenship, but this....wow.
