Oh ok this was an opinion by chuck Todd and not an official statement from the Whitehouse like the title implied. There may not be a "trigger" this year but there is a impending demographic shift, party image, and future elections

2. In regards to timing, when do you suppose the White House should have "started" the immigration debate? Shortly after the November elections wasn't quick enough? The White House allowed the senate to write their 800+ bill that was released in April(?). Then you had the regular order of going through committe and then a 3 week debate on the senate floor.

Should the White House have drafted its own bill and put it on the senate floor and vote for it itself?

A lot of people are very critical of the adminstrstion's handling of this bill but I feel their doing a great job. Listen, if the GOP and John bohner and all of those in the "house of republicans" wanted to kill CIR it would be dead. There wouldn't be any need to pass individual bills through committe or even tease us with the gang of 7's bill or call a special convention on immigration. Obstructionist know how to obstruct.

All eyes are on the house and they're in a very difficult position politically speaking. So all of this caution should be expected.

Your analysis is brilliant!

There is no source other than "I am hearing", so don't let it bust your bubble yet in a a way.

Anyone here who defends the White House "strategy" for passing immigration reform, must be smoking something else. If this is true, they have AGAIN squandered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reform the immigration system. You do not wait until the Summer recess to pass a Senate bill that will need to be re-negotiated with the House. You run out of time! Wow.
Yes, Obama should do a Vulcan mind meld and convince Boehner and the Republicans to act against their political interests.

It's not the way politics works you know.

The White House does not use good strategy. It's not just Republican obstructionism that prevents things from being accomplished.
