That's what I'm saying. I have to talk to people on H1b visas and see what their tax situation is like

Might as well work under the table.

Agreed. It must have a pathway; bit longer than those already in line. Senate Bill is reasonable in those terms

I have a serious question because I'm seeing more and more people here taking the "Citizenship or nothing" stance.

If there is no pathway to citizenship, meaning you get some sort of legal status and have to figure out your own way to become a USC (i.e. family based, employment petitions), would you guys not apply? Because the GOP's main issue with the Senate bill is that it gives us a separate pathway outside of the current options to become a citizen.

If they are planning on legalizing us thru a visa that could eventually be petitioned for citizenship (visa > green card > citizenship after a few years, if some chooses to go that route), then it is a fair compromise. But if they are planning on blocking the possibility of citizenship all together, then I think it's fucked up. They're setting us up to be discriminated, and I'm afraid that bill will not have enough support from the activists and the senate.

I agree with you. I'm open to a visa or something similar to RPI and having to just figure out my own way to become a USC.

I don't think we'd be barred from ever obtaining citizenship. Obama wouldn't sign that and it wouldn't pass the Senate.

I think having DACA has given a lot of people on here balls that they didn't have before. Ask them a year ago whether they would go for a plan that would legalize them, give them a work permit, allow them to travel, but not have a green card yet and I bet most of the chest pounding "citizenship or go fuck yourself" guys would be singing a different tune.

So in other words, the Republican Party is willing to let people stay in America as long as they're part of a pool of indentured labor with no rights of citizenship, including access to government programs that are supported by the tax revenues generated by their work and contributions to the economy. Good enough to make our business buddies wealthy, but not good enough to be viewed as Americans.

As a practical matter, the country may have to swallow this to get something done, but I find it morally repugnant.
