To put this in perspective, they even allow dogs in the army.

Out of curiosity, what pushes you to enlist ? Is it the benefits or the "hero" status? or is it something more?

Don't get me wrong,

I used to dream of going into the Airforce and a huge fan of the military-only dream act but as time goes by and obtaining a good paying job and seeing how we are hated by the republicans I slowly changed my mind.

Why die for a country who doesn't respect you or your family? nomsayin? I know the military can lead into good careers after service but one can also obtain such experience with the use of other channels.

Benefits and hero status don't mean $&@$ to me. The money for school would be cool but id be fine with loans. I don't see it as a stepping stone to anything, really. I've grown a lot as a person but one thing that I still would like to do is experience the worst human kind has to offer and try to do something about it. I'd like to join as a medic. I would like to go through bad experiences and find a way to still hold onto the belief that everyone deserves a second chance. When vets talk with hatred and say things like "you haven't seen what I've seen", I want to be able to say that I have, and that's not reason to keep holding onto fallacies. Now combine that with almost instant citizenship, that just means that I can do more for my family and I can make plans that have a better chance of working out , instead of having to come up with new ones every few months.

The only thing is that as I get older and I continue my education, enlisting for 4+ years goes from being beneficial to actually becoming limiting.

I am not defending Cantor's two-faced actions but the big DENIED stamp on this Enlist Act was more a consequence of the pressure anti-immigrant groups placed on Cantor, even starting funding campaigns for his tea party opponent and letters/faxes/emails fervently vowing to do anything possible to get him out of office based on activity I've seen on Twitter and conservative forums.

Do notice that his congressional district is 74% white, in the suburbs, and during Cantor's last primary challenge (by a Green party candidate nonetheless!), he received his lowest vote percentage since taking the hill in 2000.

tl;dr He's scared of losing his job and there's nothing in it for him if he agrees to Enlist Act.

This.

The bill couldn't have been introduced at a worse possible time with the Republican primaries still underway in several States.
