Listen, at the end of the day he's not going to veto a bill just because it doesn't have border security. That's my argument.

But, I realize that a clean bill probably won't make it through both houses, and border security is an okay compromise.

Trump has said he would not sign a clean bill, so you're argument is kinda baseless, either way, like you said, a clean bill would never make it to his desk.

This article just stated he was open to it.

Before you tell me he's never publicly stated this, he never publicly stated he'd sign a clean bill either.

No, it did not state that. It states Trump was open to not requiring wall funding in exchange for our legalization.

Clean DreamAct 'dtrt09' version:

Applies to ALL childhood arrivals.
Does not criminalize immigrants already here.

Durbin also said Congress has a "compelling opportunity" to pass legislation by the end of the year protecting immigrants brought to the U.S. as children from deportation, following Trump’s decision last week to end an Obama-era order allowing them to stay in the U.S.

"The word from Speaker Ryan is that he supports the Dream Act," Durbin said. House Speaker Paul Ryan’s "staff tells us that he thinks it is politically dangerous for him to initiate it," the senator said.

Durbin has co-sponsored legislation with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina that would grant legal permanent resident status and a pathway to citizenship to about 800,000 undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

Trump this month announced an end to the program in the next six months and called on Congress to take action by then to protect them.

"We hope we don’t have to get to a face-down with the White House or Republicans over this issue," Durbin said. "But Senator Schumer and Nancy Pelosi have made it abundantly clear that this is a priority. We’re not going to leave town without it.” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and his House counterpart, Nancy Pelosi, have both demanded protection for the young immigrants.

Looks like Punk ass Ryan doesn't want to bring the Dream Act up for a vote. Dems might have to attach it to the upcoming Tax Reform or Government funding.

Yup, it's definitely going to be that. At least it makes me hopeful because they're standing by us and they won't leave town without this resolve one way or another.

As Speaker of the House he is the one who decides what bills get voted on. Ryan is acting cowardly as usual.

I think they are tying to pass Tax Reform the same way they tried to pass the Obamacare repeal, without the need of 60 votes in the senate.

At this point; moderate republicans and the freedom caucus have a lot of infighting. Dems should just let them go at it, fail tax reform, and then attach the bill to the government funding bills.
