It makes me a little more comfortable in case it has to come down to shutting down the government for the Dream Act. Essential services continue to run in case of a shut down, but not raising the debt ceiling can be catastrophic to financial markets. I don't want to be associated with ruining the credit of the US.

Now that the issues are separated, it would just makes Republicans look incompetent and evil for shutting the government down.

There's no way the debt ceiling extension with the treasury that Mcconell crafted runs until after midterms. Its predicted it'll be over the summer, right before midterms. I think Mcconell is bluffing, he would be incredible stupid to leave the debt ceiling until the summer right before midterms.

They've got enough to fund the government until December. Either they whip a house majority from republicans in both houses (where both include fiscal conservatives) to kick the can down the road or December is when they have to deal with it.

McConnell is a very screwed politician. He knows how to get his way. I'm not saying he will, just don't sleep on him.
