[quote=hopeful_in_nyc;653010]This makes me so proud of the DACA community. Our hustle is undeniable. When I found out I couldn’t work like my friends, I went to grad school and got my masters with the tireless help of my parents. When DACA started, I continued on with grad school but immediately got a job and worked my ass off to climb the ladder. Now I’m in a leadership position and can’t inagine it all being taken away from me. Hearing your guys’ stories is really an inspiration to continue on. There is a light at the end of the tunnel for us.. in DECEMBER 2017.[/QUOTE

Im very happy for you! Glad to see so many successful dreamers all over the nation.

Wow, thanks for sharing Swim. They made really good, logical arguments and genuinely seemed to understand the benefits of legalizing us. They were actually educating the audience. At the same time, it is hard to watch because it makes me think that if the policy makes so much sense and so many folks are behind it, then why not just pass it? Just a harsh reminder of how *long* they have played political football with our lives. And to add to that, each passing day, x number of potential Dreamers are added to our 800k group who may or may not be able to legalize.

Personally, I believe that 800k or so number is misleading - because it excludes those who have expired and not able to renew, as well as those who would have been eligible for initial approvals but are no longer since the program has ended. I wish someone would clarify that to the public/media.

Side note: I loved the way the IBM exec ended the session. He nailed it.

Hey guys... Just got back home from DC. Proud to say I'm an IBMer and we had the opportunity to meet with 8 different congress members (mainly staffers). Glad you guys shared the IBM Dreamer video. I'm actually in it so that's cool. 3 weeks ago when we did this it was just IBM but this time it was a coalition of about 100 folks. Dreamers, community leaders, and businesses.
To name a few IBM, Microsoft, Starbucks, Adobe, Accenture.

Thanks for all you do man, how’s the mood over there in the hill?

So.. there were about 10 different smaller groups and we were all meeting with diff offices.
Every single office I personally met with was very supportive... If I recall we had 6 Rs and 2 Dems on our schedule. The main point we were trying to convey was the sense of urgency and the need to have legislative fix this year. However, the response from them (R's) was that their priority for this year is Tax Reform. I know that's not something we want to hear but it was something that was repeated a couple of times throughout the day. Some of them were more specific saying that they know they need to address this but it won't be until Feb/March. Obviously we pushed back on that, some staffers were "moved" and mentioned they would stress the urgency up the chain.

All in all, meetings were very good... I know we've been hopeful that with the Budget Deal Dems can get something in return but it looks like they will be doing some sort of extension.

I'm kind of exhausted so if you have more questions let me know.

Thanks for the response. All in all is good talk to them and let them know your story, seems like that helped a lot.

Although Pelosi, Durbin and Schumer insist they wont leave holiday without resolving this. This is the only time we have leverage because after December I believe they'll find any excuse not to act on it or ask for outrageous things in return and nothing will get done.
