Democrats have to hold their stance on shutting down the government over the fundiing bill on dec 8, no mater what any rebublican says and I promise you we will have da passed. If da is pushed to March what ever we get if anything will be bad.

I agree. The way of obstructing by the repubes have been to stall on consensus while appearing to legislate. Once after August recess, it is all politics! This is the fifth Congressional cycle in which the same game is played.

The difference is DACA. There has never been a situation like this in the past. I understand your skepticism due to what happened in 2010 etc, but you can’t honestly tell me the circumstances are not totally different now.

McCarthy says, yeah the House Majority Leader and the golden child of the Freedom Caucus doesn't want something.

Someone give that man a pacifier.

Basically this. DACA brought us out of the shadows to being functional members of society. Back in 2010 doing nothing just meant the status quo, right now doing nothing equals 800k people losing their work authorization, huge tax revenue losses, and a whole lot of companies losing their employees.

Trump fucked up really bad by cancelling the program.

Dems shouldn't trust the GOP, but this is from a similar article by The Hill:

Quote:
During a wide-ranging interview for The Hill’s Power Politics podcast, McCarthy (R-Calif.) expressed confidence that a politically difficult impasse could be bridged in Congress within the next four months.

“I believe at the end of the day, we’ll come to an agreement together to get that done,” he said.
Quote:
McCarthy said talks within an immigration working group, and his conversations with senior Democratic lawmakers have been “very productive…to see where we can go to solve this DACA problem, and where we can actually have stronger border security.”

Actually, after reading through immigration programs and history, the situation is not technically unique. Presidents have been known to use their broad authority to grant discretion to individuals based on the unique circumstances at the time. Also, following Presidents have also been known to take away the very same discretion authorized if they were from a different party.

Still, on Congress, I am referencing back all the way to 2007 (which includes 2010). The Republican conference (both Senate and House) has used the same stalling tactics for the last 10 years on ALL pieces of legislation (from CIR to Dream Act) which tentatively authorizes the US government to forgive past unlawful presence. The same message has been given over the years if you look at what lawmakers have mentioned.

Imo, the biggest cruelty is to give a false hope when the evidence over many years have pointed in the opposite direction.
