Why would Dems vote for an extension unless they are guaranteed DA will be attached to the funding bill?

The extension is only to be able to work out spending numbers in relation to defense spending and domestic spending. There are other issues besides DA they hope to accomplish as well. A two week extension will allow for a deal to be made
