CHIP was on the House bill, Democrats were going to get it anyway, shut down or not. Democrats should have ask for CHIP for the first CR, then hurricane relief for second CR. This way, at least they can't use sick children vs illegal or hurricane victims vs illegal. Dems got outplayed once again.

Republicans never intent to end CHIP, they planned on using it as a hostage later on which they just did and roll the dems over hard.

Well maybe thats what they have in mind. Lets let this one slide and get the "military funding" and CHIP out of the way, while still having an option to shutdown again on Feb 8th. Except then the Republicans wont have anyone to use as "an excuse vs the illegals".

I think the deal will be something like this if any: 12 year path citizenship for DACA enrolees only, with ability to sponsor nuclear family members only (mother and father) with parents unable to sponsor anybody else. Merit-based immigration system (lottery visa and H1B Visa for spouses of skilled workers go out the window), increased border security with "smart wall" that is being pitched around congress, expedited deportation of future border walkers, and if republican play it well they might even get the e-verify system. What do you guys think? What deal do you think will pass?

I am totally fine with another CR without another shutdown. What that does, is make Repubs look incompetent, the hard right to rise up and down divisions within their own party. Sooner or later, Bitch Ryan is going to need democrats to pass a budget. And then we're talking leverage again. They can't govern solely on CRs
