If I was a white guy with EU citizenship, I would’ve left a long time ago.

I agree, I know American citizens who had their license revoked bc of a DUI. Honestly, a DUI can ruin your life regardless of status.

You'd still get the book thrown at you, you could be purple and a dinosaur and still face the long and spiny dick of the law.

Getting an answer wrong on a test is a mistake, getting off at the wrong exit on the freeway is a mistake. DUIs are not mistakes. They're choices, bad choices at that. People need to learn how to be responsible

How about you just don’t drive under the influence? It’s not that hard.

Well I wasn’t necessarily defending people with DUIs. I do understand that a person should be punished if they are drunk and crash and kill people. I just think we shouldn’t dehumanize people with DUIs by refusing to admit that what they did was very likely a mistake. It should have consequences but it definitely doesn’t automatically make them a bad person. I also know white people get DUIs and are punished for them but this line of thinking that people with DUIs are bad people goes into the criminal justice system and minority defendants are more likely to get longer sentences.

I, however, consider victimless crimes to be mistakes. I personally don’t do drugs but you shouldn’t have to face jail time for having small amounts of drugs. Drugs should be decriminalized and the money used for enforcement should be used for treatment options if the drug user wants to get better. They are mentally ill, not criminals. Also mental illness is something that makes people inadmissible. This is bullshit and it’s why some immigrants don’t seek treatment and get the help that they need. Overall, I’m just saying that there are many examples of mistakes that brand people as criminals when they really shouldn’t be branded in that way.

DUIs prevents deaths since the punishment is harsh people think twice about driving intoxicated.

And no comments about the drug part. I personally hate drugs so much.

Well, its also important to note the level of drunkens and what is deemed as a DUI

Federal level is 0.08 or above. But

Quote:
Under the first law, you may be convicted of impaired driving based upon your inability to safely operate a motor vehicle, no matter what your blood alcohol level. Under the second law, it is per se unlawful to drive with a blood alcohol level of .08 or greater.
So that means EVEN if you had just ONE beer or heck half a beer, or just a sip, you could get a DUI.

Don't think of a DUI as a person completely wasted, it can be just half a beer.

Just a perspective, we have people above 70 making decisions that affect our very lifes, can people with DYING brain cells left and right honestly make coherent choices?
