I think working without EAD will be a problem when you do AOS.

Sure you can legally with out a valid EAD on the state level but good luck adjusting in the federal level later in life

I dont think it is a problem if they pay their taxes as everyone should. The only problem would be if their companies get audited and the feds see they are not following the rules. Our ssn literally say, not valid for work without DHS authorization, so companies need to have your EADs on file.
