No. He isn’t going to appoint someone to his seat until 2020. He will appoint someone for a few months until a special election happens.

Yes. He is going to. That is the law in Arizona. The governor must appoint a person of the political party of the senator, the Republican Party in this case, and that person will serve as his replacement until 2020. In November of 2020, the election will bring a new senator who can serve the rest of his term that ends in 2022. After that, if anyone wins his seat, that person will serve a full 6-year term.

This is true.

If Senator McCain would have passed before the end of May, we would have had a special election to fill his seat this fall.
