I have an idea that would require all of us to contribute. It's actually quite simple but we'd need everyone to help out. I can't do it on my own. Here, locally, I've been discussing the idea with a small group of dreamers. We all agree it's doable but only if we could get people spread out across the country to help.

So what is my idea? Well, the most important part would include collecting signatures on paper and in person. And the purpose would be? Raising awareness of the Dream Act and collecting support* in form of signatures.

But how would we go about collecting signatures? School campuses, corners (just don't wear checkered tights), and even from door to door. That's right.

Realistically, how many signatures could we each collect? Might not sound so impressive but once we put all the collected signatures from across the country, it should sound quite impressive.

*I'll elaborate more on this if enough people wanna help out.

------------------
I bring this idea up because it kind of ties in to what deft is talking about. Having leaders be set up by region. Well, these leaders would ultimately be responsible for collecting signatures themselves and also gathering up all the signatures collected from fellow dreamers in their area.

Sound like something you guys would like to do? It would be quite effective if enough of us started working on it.

Signatures could be incorporated into any event held to the public be it a presentation etc. Hit two birds with one stone deal.

Thank You so much for this terrific post and for your local efforts for the Dream Act. If you send me a pm with your email, i can add you to my list for the so call conference call with mark silverman. I can add your whole group if you want to. I mean, no one this liberal can be part of ICE.

Curiously, a member from our PICO family mentioned a similar idea but making a letters of paper and ink - and possibly blood!!- targeting Obama. Yes, 10 letters is better than one. 100 letters is better than 10 and 1000 letters are better than 100. If we get 1 we are still better off because 1 is better than nothing.

Yes, those types of actions work when they are coordinated and delivered at the same time (it seems deliverables always come up a a way of reach reps).
100 letters spread out over time don't have the same impact as 100 delivered at the same time.

We could do something similar to MAGrad's national call in day and the postcards sent through da.org.

Deliverables other than letter would be great. Something like this:

Creativity is always a plus and brings more attention.

I really like the signature idea. I think it would make a huge impact if we could do it across the nation. Especially from states where senators did not vote for the dream act last time around.

I've been thinking this exact same thing!

I can't point fingers because I need to be more active as well. I'm just scared of putting myself out there, and I think that's the reason a lot of us aren't active with getting dream out there.

So anyway, the idea getting signatures popped into my head a like two days ago in the shower! I think that's a great idea, I think we can definitely get a lot of signatures if everyone just gets as many as they can. It would draw attention, but I just hope those against us don't copy this idea and do the opposite We don't need one of those fiascoes California had with their petition against gay marriage

We just need to get everyone organized, empowered, and participating, in a positive way and attitude

It's a good idea, the only problem I see is the fact that we would have to explain to people what the DA is which is not something you can do in less than 5 mins. I'm guessing that by that point most people would just give us the brush off and walk away.

ha ha ha ha...it seems someone has yet to master how to do a proper pact with the devil a la Tom Sawyer.

In collecting signatures you look for a place where you might have a sympathetic audience. Three scripts, one is a little line, the second is a longer version and the third is a bigger version with all the bells and whistles.

We do need a letter to the main target, I assume president Obama, no longer than one page and then the template for the signatures. Some thing like 6-10 signatures per page. Name, phone, address. DO NOT WORRY, PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE TIME TO GO AND GIVE THIS INFORMATION TO ICE. THEY WANT TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE TO MAKE SURE YOU EXIST, AND TO SEND YOU MORE GOVERNMENT INFORMATION.

Sadly, yes, even the longer script has to be between 2-3 minutes. The first one would be like:

"Please, can you sing this letter for president Obama to pass the Dream Act. It will give an opportunity to undocumented students, who were brought as minors, a path for legalization."

If they keep walking never mind, if they stop and ask a question, be polite, even with the meanest jerk. if you are under any government building, remind them you are exercising your right for freedom of speech. If you are doing it outside a business or congregation ask permission first. If the pastor looks afraid, just remind them that they cannot endorsed politicians or political affiliations but they can endorse legislation. If they are still hesitant, thank them anyway and ask them where which groups they think you should target.

Remember always smile and use the nice cologne. People respond more to good looking people. Horrible but true.
