Yes you can. Especially since it's insured and registered. It's actually even recommended since you will be more comfortable in your car

What do they ask you for at the DMV for proof of residency, some kind of utility bill or something like that with your name on it?

they don't. when they pull your immigration file, they'll know along with your SSN

Wait I don't understand,
For example if I move to CA from another state, and I've never had a license or i.d. how long do I need to live in the state of California in order to get a license and do I need to show proof of my new address?

Will they still require it to be driven to and from the DMV by someone else who is already licensed and over 21?

They don't check your address w/ SSA. You're not obligated to update your address w/ SSA unless you're getting benefits from them, so there's no way for DMV to accurately assess your current address from your SSA file.

But more importantly... I don't think CA DMVs even require you to bring proof of residence.

Yes this is what I wanted to know because when I move I don't want to be dealing with the address stuff at the CA DMV, I'm moving to Handford, CA soon it's south of Fresno

(Don't know where else to post this)

Just came back from the Pasadena DMV to apply for ID.
Only thing showed was EAD.
Took no more than 10 minutes.
Everyone was nice. (Glendale would've have been WAY closer but decided against it due to longer wait times and bad reviews)

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.

Edit: BTW at the DMV site you can check out the current wait times. Example: Pasadena

i just got my permit today! it felt so good to finally be able to walk in there and not get rejected, like i have been in the past.

for those of you out of state who want a CA id/dl, they only ask for an address. also, the only thing u need to bring is your ead and your ssn. they did not ask for the card. i went to the pomona valley dmv. the wait is LONG, the line wrapped around the building. like the comment above me said, make an appointment!!! i made an appointment and i was in and out in 35 minutes!
