I think we should hope for a couple of things:

1- that the bill is as simple as possible. The longer and more complicated it is the more ground the antis can cling onto. It also takes longer to discuss, harder to digest and reconcile, risk of it not going anywhere.

2- that the bill doesn't come with any 'do or die' provisions like in the past. Basically most of us have been screwed in the past because of the bills being so broad and idealistic that nothing got passed. We may not LOVE all the requirements but learning English is probably easier than being deported if you ask me. Pretty much everything is better than going to a detention center.

3- that they DO get some bipartisan support. The 'Democratic' majority is bullshit because some of the biggest opponents of CIR are conservative Dems and not moderate Reps. Collins and Tester are in different parties - look where they stand. If they alienate Reps in the House they will lose support in the Senate. This has failed before exactly like that.

4- that the focus is on passage and not provisions. Nobody here can wait two years for a more refined version of the bill and its easier to iron out legislative issues through executive policy than sink a whole bill because the water wasn't the perfect temperature.

As I know the House this bill will likely be ridiculous and unacceptable to the Senate but I REALLY wholeheartedly hope that isn't the case. I don't see the Dems having the balls or wits to introduce a compromise bill so it's more likely they will introduce it stillborn. I would rather see a Schumer bill first and my only hope is that this isn't Gutierrez's re-election baby.
