Did you not hear dtrt09? Democrats are all idiots and you're just puffing the bong.

Puff, puff, pass.

Here is a history of the vote from 1986. It initially passed the Senate in 1985, with 69 votes, but didn't pass the House until a year later, and the conference report only passed with 63 votes. BUT the point is they worked on the bill for over a year after introduction, and we don't have no year to work with, only a few months.

DAUser, it seems they had a lot more support in Congress. Popular support was a very different thing just because the ethnic makeup of the country was different, and so was the immigration system.

See, I actually believe Harry Reid is sincere when he says that he wants to bring an immigration reform bill to the floor. I fault him because he is the leader of the Senate. And as such, if you have all the intentions of passing legislation you demand of your appropriate commitee to produce you a finished bill so that it can be voted on the floor. I think in the caucus meeting today he faced resistance or outright opposition to doing this. And from his own party members at that. I stand by my opinion that the Democrats are idiots.

No, the liars are Schumer and Obama. There is not a f****ing bill. That's the problem. I do believe Sen. Reid when he says that he has about 56 votes. That's a lot more than healthcare had prior to forcing a vote on it. So IF Schumer and Obama had come up with a reasonable, efficient and fair bill, we would just need to open a blip of time in the next couple weeks in the agenda, and either it passes or it doesn't.

I'm actually with dtrt09 on this one; there is no bill. They always say it will be introduced soon, but if you guys remember, the original date for introduction was LABOR DAY (not Memorial Day) and that f***ing thing is in September. Not to mention that a promise of a bill is so much better for them than introducing and voting on it in an election year. They will probably introduce it in like July, say there is no time to vote on it this year and this way basically preserve their entire voting base in support of immigration. I mean, come on, who's going to vote for someone else if it is these officials that got the bill on the floor.

I'll tell you who: My siblings, mother and a lot of my friends; all of whom are far more liberal than people imagine. They are all p****d off that the Dems compromise on anything and can't find a single thing worth a fight. They'll vote for true progressives.

I am guessing they have 80% or so of a bill, which will be the same as previous bills, but are trying to figure out the other 20% in such a way as to get the mythical Bipartisanship (beyond Graham). Oh, and if they introduce a bill in July, they can wait til December to vote on it. It's all a question of whether you think they are sincere or pandering to a demographic in their state who they [reid] need to vote for them if they have a prayer of reelection. On some level they all want a bill. What they are willing to risk for it is another question. So far, seems like not much.
