Bullshit. He did change the timeline. A lot of you don't hold real jobs that deal with the politics that prevent things from being done. When you do, you will be able to spot bs like this from 10 miles away. Without a date; there's no real committment.

Someone I know who works for BOEING sent me this via email today, and BOEING has a lot of vested interests in this bill:

http://www.asmconline.org/2010/09/ti...ill-uncertain/

When the Senate returned from the summer recess, leaders did not have an agreed-to plan for action on the FY2011 Defense Authorization bill. The Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) approved a bill in May, but has not been able to get agreement to bring the bill to the floor. The full House meanwhile passed its version of the bill in May. Earlier this week, Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) was reported to have told republican leaders that he intended to press Senate action on the authorization bill next week. However, he now appears to have backed off that commitment saying he doesn’t think the schedule will allow the Senate to finish the bill this month. This means that the bill will have to be taken up after the elections in November. That is, if Congress returns for a “lame duck” session. In any case, Reid will need republican support to move the bill forward. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and other republican Senators have resisted floor action since the SASC approved it. A major roadblock to floor action has been language in the SASC bill repealing DoD’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” (DADT) policy on gays serving openly in the military. Sen. McCain has repeatedly expressed his opposition to a bill that includes repealing the DADT language before DoD has completed a required study to determine the effect of the repeal on military readiness. Senate democrats point out that the language in the bill would not allow repeal until after the report is completed. However this has not assuaged McCain’s and other opposition. Further hindering the chances of quick Senate action was Reid’s announcement that he intends to try to add language (“American Dream Act”) that would provide a way for illegal immigrant students to obtain U.S. citizenship. Many Senators oppose including extraneous material, not relevant to defense, in the bill. Therefore, even if Senate democrat leaders can marshal 60 votes to move to a vote on the bill, it will take time to reconcile the many differences between the House and Senate bills

There's still time to call them out on this and get a real date for voting action, and not a we-may, we-may-not get to it this year.

Mod lock this thread , as far as we know the vote will happen! Again we always get discouraged by these type of articles. Let's concentrate our efforts in activism.

Like I said, calm down. The vote on DADT and DREAM is happening next week if democrats can get 60 votes to break republican's filibuster. The final vote on defense bill will just happen in november.

Good lord...The issue is the timeline for voting the Defense Bill. That is the point of the original post. Not the DA amendment.

We all know that the DA amendment will be voted on next week. We also have been saying for months now that September is do or die for DA. And that means DA only passes if the Defense Authorization bill passes.

It is supposed to be done by the start of the next fiscal year which starts Oct. 1st.

From the Hill:

"If the bill doesn’t move in September and slides into the period after the election, Republicans have made it clear they will only agree to a continuing resolution to keep funding the Defense Department.

If that continuing resolution gets carried into next year, a new defense bill would have to be written under a new Congress. Getting a repeal passed through both chambers in the next session would be difficult; Republicans, who mostly oppose repeal, could win a majority in the House this November and gain seats in the Senate. "

This links to an article on DADT, but it summarizes the exact same reasons for DreamAct. And despite what you may think, I am calm, because a potential vote on DreamAct was completely unexpected and is great news for certain. But it does piss me off when politicians insult people's intelligence with their bs. In fact, I feel a whole lot better now after venting. This is all I have to say in the matter.

Nothing about the DREAM Act being attached to the defense bill has changed.

The Senate is going to begin considering the Defense Authorization bill on Monday.
They will have a vote to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to the bill. They will have votes on several amendments to the bill, including the DREAM Act.

So, nothing changed. If the DREAM Act survives the vote on Tuesday, there is a very high chance of it being passed in the Senate. The whole defense bill will be voted after the election. That is the only change. Yes, it is not clear that there are 60 votes for the attachment of the DREAM Act to the defense bill, but it will be voted on Tuesday as planned.

Yes, DA User. You are partially correct. The DREAM Act has been out there for the next ten years, and it can't die if lawmakers like Senator Durbin keep bringing it back to the Senate. But, if it is not attached to the defense bill on Tuesday, it will not be brought back in the Senate for the next few years. The number of supporters for the bill will dramatically drop, and there is no way of passing it in the Senate unless many of new Senators in 2013 are pro-immigration.
I disagree. DA can be a stand-alone also. It will be part of CIR when it comes up after Elections.
