I read it has an 1% error rate but the Social Security data can be inaccurate 4% of the time so yeah.

The only way it would pass is if they promise to enact an immigration reform 5 months after its passage, otherwise, consider this dead.

One of the selling points for Dream acts is that the kids came here with "no fault of their own" and are essentially Americans having gone to schools and etc, and even that didn't even get past lame duck Congress (damn filibusters). If you think your parents will gain legal citizenship status soon through amnesty, it's going to be a long wait. Your parents knew exactly what they were getting themselves into when they came here and knew the risks. Sorry it may sound harsh but it's the truth.

Realistically speaking e-verify is pretty much needed if they're going to pass DREAM act especially under this Congress. The GOP can say they did something and the Dems can say they did something also.

E-verify will indeed ensure that instead of people working under the table, there is a massive market created for stolen identities to get through the E-verify system, probably targeting individuals who would not realize their identity was stolen are used in such a way.

If there is considerable demand and there are people that would be willing to pay a lot of money for a product, people are going to marketed, illegal or not, and whether they even do it or just run away with the money.

What worries me about all of this is that its just going to put a lot more people into a deeper shadow, the SB1070 ensures that people will not even trust the police even to report a crime to themselves or that they witnessed (already detectives have a hard time solving murder cases that take place in latino communities because people won't volunteer out of fear, they suspect), people that will take jobs for far lower pay, in far more deplorable conditions, where the employeer is clearly taking advantage of the fact that they could make a lot of money and never get caught. It worries me to think that this may be happening right now.

I would trade E-Verify for the DREAM Act any day.
