I see, but couldn't you make the same criticism about Durbin? Durbin has been pushing for the DA for ten years, yet we still take him seriously. I think we should also take Schumer seriously. Like Durbin and Menendez, Schumer is doing what he can.

If Obama does win and the congressional status quo remains after the elections, the scenario will be the same; Republicans will always resist. I really doubt Obama's re-election will make Republicans submissive to Obama's agenda.

So, my stance is to have legislators seek for a compromise on CIR now because waiting for the ideal congressional scenario to pass CIR is frustrating and futile; time goes by and our lives are in limbo. So, WHY NOT PUSH NOW TO SEE IF THIS ISSUE GETS RESOLVED EARLIER THAN EXPECTED?
Yupp agree, No matter when they push for CIR now or after 2012, but president will have to do some heavy lifting like his doing with debt negotioation. Hopefully Obama is willing to work seriously on immigration issue before election.

So now the question is: Does Obama really want to get it done before election??

Answer: If he really want to pass DA, he would have used his power to get his own party lined up behind DA in last Dec just like health care. Another word his not intrested in his 1st term.

I strongly agree with you on this. Obama needs to do some serious heavy lifting. The best he can do is to meet with influential Republicans and Democrats from the House and Senate and really push them to find a compromise to this problem. The securing the border first is a clear political gimmick, and such a strategy would not solve the entire problem. If securing the border first means passing E-Verify first, what are 11 to 12 million people going to do for nourhisment and housing expenses??? Such a situation would really be a violation of human rights. It would be absolutely inhumane.

Overall, Obama needs to pressure Democrats and Republicans to get this issue resolved before the election. He better not be over-confident, thinking that the Democrats will dominate once again after 2012. No, he needs to act on this issue as if this term were his last. Obama needs to pressure Republicans and Democrats to settle this issue, not buts or ifs. If some legislator pulls CIR or DA+Enforcement provision from the floor due to a lack of comrpomise, Obama literally needs to irritate both sides to get back at it again.

Ah yes,

Good memory. I forgot about it. Let's see if the event actually takes place. I thought I also read that Obama would not be attending an annual Latino-voter event this year. I am not sure if this is it.

I think it was last months were all latino elected officials meet and Obama didn't go due to his bussy schedual, and thas why white house had to confirmed that he will be goin to this one. So hopefully will hear something better from him this time.
