There already is background checks for most guns you buy. What the amendment would've done is just require a check for EVERY sale at a gun show, whether you're a private seller or FFL holder and a check for online sales, which there already is. Online gun sales already require you to only ship weapons to a valid FFL holder. After it arrives, then the person that ordered that weapon can visit the FFL holder, get a background check, and take his new firearm if he passes it. There is no gunshow loophole, just private sellers selling their firearms where there is a large gathering of gun buyers.

This was all NRA. Most Americans support universal background checks on all gun owners, but the NRA thinks otherwise and they get what they want. Fortunately, we have a lot of big business lobbies and organizations on our side. They have actively been part of the negotiations and have helped with the Senate bill. The key obviously is to get the House to get on board with it. I think the Republicans have to realize that their viability as a party will hinge on this legislation.

That had little shot of passing anyway and if passed, some angry Republicans would have tried to make sure the pres doesn't get too many victories and it might have hurt us on immigration.

While this is bad news, its actually not all that bad. Believe me this issue will come up again and it will pass.. It's the same thing with immigration.. Failed in the past, looking good this time and if it fails this year it will be worked on again in the future..

CIR always had a better chance than background checks, from the getgo everyone reporting on the issues said gun legislation would be tougher. Politicians vote in favor to keep their jobs.. Some senators are in office because of heavy funding by the NRA they knew if they voted for this bill that the NRA would find their challenger to get them out of office as soon as re-election comes up so they did what they have to do.

Now when it comes to immigration, you have rich, powerful people like mark zuckaberg who is throwing money at the issue to get it solved, so yes there is lots of funding behind immigration at this moment and less to oppose it. Also, democrats are not the problem on the issue of immigration, its the republicans and they know if they want to have a chance at the Latino vote they need to get immigration done. Plus all the money from the immigration side, trust me guys.. We have a real shot right now. Things just need to keep going at this speed and the community needs to message their representative asking them to vote yes on the issue and keep up with the rally's.. I am VERY confident we can get it done.

That bill was nowhere near as important as the CIR bill politically. (Esp. for Reps)

if it is guns you are worried about, im sure if there are more massacres the senators will change their mind

if it does come to that, it will suck for them
