When it comes to immigration politics, the worst charge you can level towards the Democrats is that they ve committed sins of omission. The Republicans however have committed sins of commission.

I have two eyes, a functioning brain and a memory.

I know who blocked the 2006 immigration efforts, the 2007 immigration reform bill and the 2013 immigration reform bill. It wasn't the Democrats.

I know which party demonizes immigrants and which party advocates legalization. I know which party tries to compromise and I know which party keeps shifting the bars & upping the ante not out of good faith, but out of a desire to block any legalization.

I know which President gave DACA to young undocumented people and I know which President called illegal immigrants rapists and drug smuglers.

I know which President tried to protect most immigrants from deportation and I know which party took him to court to prevent him from doing that. I also know which President removed those protections and is trying to deport people regardless of criminal history or ties they got in american communities.

If after all that's happened over the past 20 years, you re inclined to blame Pelosi, Clinton and Obama and pin your hopes on the incompetent doofus residing at 1600 Pensylvania Ave right now, I have no words. Actually I do, but they aren't family friendly. Shame on you.

In 2013/2014 the Republicans were proposing legalization for the entire undocumented population, but without a path to citizenship. Like TPS for everybody. You had to marry a citizen or serve in the military to be a LPR.

That was when the Democrats had the Senate and the Presidency. Dems shot it down saying that without a full path to citizenship it was a non starter.

From 2014

“Why do we have all these marches and speeches about citizenship for 10 million people? Why don’t they focus on what we all want, which is to be able to work?” said Jose Joya, 36, a maintenance worker from El Salvador in the District. “If you get a work permit, you can buy a car and pay your taxes and spend money without thinking you could be arrested. What we want is to be legal.”

It's been less than a 100 days and they've been working relentlessly to repeal ACA and now tax reform. Keeping DACA alive is the sign of exactly what you're seeking, them coming to the table. It is the DEMOCRATS who need to come to the table. They are the ones who are the biggest thread to CIR at the present moment. We have to live in the present moment and dance to Trump's tune, no way out. And by "entire" if you mean criminal aliens, that will never happen. Till date, Trump has not called for mass deportation. This is a fact but we should not fight for convicts like these Immigrant organizations do all the damn time (DISCLOSURE: I am grateful for them getting us DACA..before anyone starts calling me out for not being grateful)

Yes, exactly! Democrats aren't perfect and they've made mistakes, but it is a false equivalency to say Democrats and Republicans are equally the reason for no relief for the immigrant community.

I agree with Pelosi that the wall would be too costly for everyone--even maintaining it down the road would be a waste. However, I do think that Democrats should be willing to compromise on other national/border security measures and legalization.

But, if Pelosi is unwilling to come to the middle on anything other than the wall, well . . . then we know that she is not very smart and a piece of crap.

They may not be equivalent in may ways, but Democrats are still at fault for refusing to compromise on an issue that Republicans value so highly. Let's be frank: the Republican concern on border/national security is legitimate. Both parties are at fault in many ways on the issue of immigration. I will give you a friendly reminder: Obama deported more immigrants than any other administration--even ones that did not deserve to be deported--even though he did deliver on DACA. Remember the slogan, "Deporter in Chief"? Remember Gutierrez getting arrest for protesting against Obama's deportations? Let us not forget that Democrats had the opportunity to exert all of the political muscle on immigration reform (which Obama promised to do as soon as he entered office) when Dems controlled Congress. All I am saying is that Pelosi's refusal to compromise is embarrassing and should not be encouraged.

See this clip (border security is a legitimate concern; that damn border is not secure): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=did4TgRzt2U

Enforcement will yield better results and the ecosystems at the border won't be destroyed. A lot of DACAers here are pro wall and stand behind Trump. While you're entitled to support whoever the fack you want being on his side is an atrocity to common sense, decency, truth, planet earth and a lot more the real America stands for so screw you big time pathetic arses. Your selfishness is a total disgrace.
Well thank you very much for that beautiful Soliloquy Shakespeare. But people stopped taking you seriously when you said "Trump will end DACA on Day 1" so don't waste your time. Like literally nobody read that but me. You should award me a medal for that.

Yes, we need border/national security but a wall isn't going to achieve that (history has proven walls don't work) and it is a huge waste of tax payer money.

I'm aware Obama deported many immigrants. At least under Obama there was targeted enforcement focused on those caught near the border, those who've committed crimes and those who appear to have arrived in 2014 or later. Under Trump everyone is fair game.
