They will break eventually. There's still a few days and last minute deals are NOTHING new in the US government. Right now they are busy trying to ram through their tax hike and the budget can wait.

Considering that the government shutdown will happen on the 8th you'll need a whole lot of eyedrops to not blink. You know how you read that treasury can pull some extraordinary means to keep going until March? Yeah that's during a shutdown.

Basically

Government running fine -> Dec 8 -> Shutdown (Government running with skeleton crews) -> March (exact day TBD) -> Default -> Global Economic Collapse.
