We’re talking about the impending government shutdown. Ryan does not have the votes for a CR. If he does, he only has it for dec 22. After that his caucus splits between republicans that want DACA settled before the new year, and the freedom caucus that wants deep spending cuts, and then there are the defense hawks who want an increase in defense spending.

I thought the Hastert Rule was mainly for standalone legislation. Is it not possible for Democrats to add the Dream Act as an amendment to the spending bill?

Women’s march staging a protest in front of trump tower right now demanding a clean dream act.
a) amazing so happy people are pushing and keeping the topic revenant
b) everyone and their mom knows that a clean dream act will not work for the GOP. I hope the hype of a clean dream act doesn’t impede compromise talks.

No use going back and forth with him. Let’s just wait to see what happens!

Ahhhh..at least one damn Republican out of how many?

Cornyn is one candidate.

Guys, where did you get this idea that we can get legalized without giving them something on border security?

This is just as bad as me keeping my Trump avatar. Shit doesn't make sense.

Beehive was annoying for trolling? God damn dudes. Guys don't get it.

Here is the point, The original Hastert-rule was applied even to amendments. Hastert applied it while we were attempting to attach it to the military appropriations bill (which was(and still is) must-pass legislation) sometime back in the House.

This is why I emphasize, Will Ryan do the same to not only legislation, but amendments as well!

Well there’s still that discharge petition somewhere out there. Maybe that could be used. Otherwise the threat of a shut down will motivate Ryan to forget about the hastert rule just this once

The issue is Democrats haven’t really attempted to shut the government down before over dreamers. All those years, they had Obama as president or controlled at least one branch of congress. They were hesitant to do so and take the blame .
Now republicans control ALL 3 branches! They have nothing to lose by refusing to vote for a spending bill or budget which doesn’t contain their priorities. Do you see the difference now?

The conversation is not about a shutdown per say!!! It is about the path forward after the shutdown. The conversation has been surrounding the belief how Republicans will simply abdicate in favor of legislation that we favor simply because they are in the majority and will be blamed for it.

Do you understand the danger yet...you said until the 22nd( I call that stalling). He is stalling for time, why? It can go both ways, not only the caucus separating, but unifying is also a possibility. A little pork project can go a looooong for one more vote from your caucus.

This.

So, it boggles my mind anyone can think that Democrats can pass a Dream Act without giving Republicans something on border security. This belief goes beyond the realm of reason. This is just plain wishful thinking.
