Didn't Flake vote Yea on the Tax bill already? What guarantee does he have that the senate will put his bill to a vote if he already voted Yea? or does he somehow get to withdraw the vote would his compromised objective not be met?

Thanks in advance
All he stated was that he got a verbal commitment from McConnell agreeing to work on a DACA fix. He could theoretically vote no on the TAX bill that just came out of the conference. I doubt he will though. People were saying how he might have voted yes on the initial vote only after realizing that it was going to pass anyways, regardless of his vote.

There's still at least one more vote to be had by members of both the House and the Senate (House will vote Monday, Senate will vote Tuesday).

Flake has no guarantee, except maybe to be included in the DACA talks with the VP.

He voted yes, but the tax bill had to go through committee to work out the differences between the senate and house versions and to fix a big mistake they had made in it. So next week, they will vote on the final bill again.

To your question, Democrats will have similar leverage now or anytime before January 19 if the current Continuing Resolution passes, a little more info here.

Senator Flake and Senator Durbin have been working on a stand alone DREAM Act, and it may (don't know how) hit the floor next week and hopefully would pass with a veto proof majority. At this point, it's all up in the air, and no one knows what is going on or even what is likely going on.
Even if it passes the Senate, it would take a miracle and a lot of arm twisting to have the Speaker bring it up for a vote in the House. What amazes me is how much hatred the Freedom Caucus has for us...so much so that they'd agree to let pass record spending rather than give us relief.

It would pass both chambers (even with the Freedom Caucus voting no) with at least a majority. That's not the issue.

The issue in both chambers, as you mentioned, is how are Flake and Durbin going to bring it to the floor. They both seemed fairly certain, though, that they had a way. I'll try to find the article.

Edit: Here's one with Durbin. Couldn't find the Flake article.

Quote:
“It is very difficult to imagine putting this off” until next year, Durbin said on a call with reporters last week. Durbin and Democratic leadership have said Congress should not break for the holidays without a solution for DACA recipients.

Durbin remained optimistic Wednesday. He told USA TODAY that negotiations were "progressing" but needed to speed up if a compromise was going to be reached by next week. He said he thought it was still possible.

They know. They want to use it as a wedge issue for 2018. They don't want to help us, they want to use us for political gain.
