Of course “chain migration” is a divisive issue! Family base sponsor ship wasn’t even part of the initial deal to try and fix DACA! Everyone in this forum forgets that a major change in the immigration law will affect EVERYONE including natural born US citizens. Don’t you realize that if this passes Trump and the anti-immigrant sector just traded off every citizens rights for a small portion of sympathetic “illegals”.

I know people tend to focus on themselves but this chain migration isn’t just about “oh no, now we can’t sponsor our undocumented parents” it’s also about the fact that millions of people whom are or will try to do it the legal( “right”) way will no longer have that choice! Why should all these legal citizen give up THEIR rights so that we, who did it “the wrong” way can get a path to citizenship.

Yes, try to make that point now when Democrats don't have any leverage to make the GOP shift on that. See you in Canada pal. Good luck to you.

Its not a matter of rights. Most people dont even want to go through the exhaustive sponsorship system. The system is broken, citizens have already gave up on it. Chain migration is dead and has been dead for years now. So theres nothing to fight for here.
I dont see any citizens going crazy over the fact that chain migration is getting eliminated. Most citizens dont even care.

Most American Citizens aren't going to care until it effects them personally. If you are several generations in the US there wouldn't be any foreign relative for you to sponsor until say you fall in love with the foreign student in college. You date, marry, and she/he becomes a US Citizen. And your wife or husband now wants to bring over their siblings or aging parents - and now she/he can't. Many citizens might be ok with this, but is it because they aren't properly educated in immigration related matters or is it because they really don't think their spouse should be able to bring family over?

We need to be realistic, no one cares about that scenario. Trump for sure doesnt care and America has already leaned towards that path of not caring about the scenario of you as a USC marrying someone abroad who becomes a GC holder and then eventually USC and then wants to bring their brother/sister/parents? Thats a pure joke if the democrats are going to fight for a non-existent issue like that -__-
Now we can say what about the undocumented parents that are here? Yes they are important but we need to take it a step at a time. Once we are legalized, we can fight for them.
