I got one of those letters back in 2014 (around the 1st renewal deadline). All I did was bring that letter and my updated EAD to the DMV and got my DL/ID renewed. I am not surprised that they are doing it again, since I assume the Social Security Administration and DMV are linked.

I went in last time around and had to retake the photograph. They didn't just renew what I had. I would have liked them to just of used the same picture. I didn't have to pay for the renewal because it was within the 5 year spam, but this time around I will be required to pay.

Wow, that sounds like a better deal that me. Back in 2014, my DMV made me pay to renew my DL/ID because I initially received the 5 year card like everyone else in 2012. BUT, a few months later (around 2013) I received an updated DL/ID in the mail showing it with the expiration date matching my EAD (and being told to turn in/shred my 5 year expiration DL/ID). So, since 2016 is coming around, I am expecting the same letter and the need to pay for a renewal to the DMV. The paying part is annoying, but the peace of mind of having an up-to-date DL/ID offsets that annoyance.

How long did it take you guys to get a receipt and bio letter?
I sent mine on 06/10 and was received on 06/13 but I haven't received anything yet.

We sort of have the same timeline, my application was received 06/14. I just got a notification today, so yours is probably coming soon.

I'm getting nervous. E-notification that USCIS received my application on June 2nd, but never received I-797 letter. MyCaseStatus says they sent out biometrics letter on June 10th. No letter either. I'm in California.

I know it's similar to what other people have experienced but yeesh...

I just dropped of my renewal packet at FedEx last night, 108 days before expiration... please tell me it's going to be ok.

You were right I had the letter waiting in the mail yesterday... Didn't receive e-notification though.

I got it this week too. Last time i mailed a copy of my new EAD and got a new license with the same pic. I didn't pay anything though.
