Yeah, they would be treating dreamers like the kids at the border who they want to expedite their removal without going in front of an immigration judge. Hope that gets taken out in negotiations, it's so unconstitutional that it would not surprise me if it's a poison pill

Take out that provision and replace with a fine or something and it would get much better.

Also, how do they plan to collect back taxes on unverifiable income?

The section referring to waiving of rights pertains to the Visa Waiver Program to prevent future overstays. The section is called "SEC. 7. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH STATUS REQUIRE-
6 MENTS; VISA OVERSTAYS."

It doesn't really pertain to most of us. You have to read these things in context, law isn't superficial.

I can see the sponsor's goal in attempting to prevent future overstays with this section, but it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth when "waiver of rights" is ever uttered.

You’re reading the wrong section of the bill. It’s on page 12. Also, I’m sure dick durbin knows more about how this would effect us specifically than anyone on this forum.

It's even on the Tillis press release:

Signing an acknowledgment that they will not be eligible for any form of relief or immigration benefit pursuant to the legislation if they are convicted of a crime while on CPR status.

We wouldn't be able to use the American Opportunity Tax Credit during conditional permanent residency with this bill. What a terrible bill.

Let's stick with the DREAM Act...

yeah. i was able to use the American Opportunity Tax Credit during my time in College here in California (which is legal) during 5 years w/DACA to help with tuition.

"The American opportunity credit allows taxpaying students the opportunity to settle the cost of attending college."

i have no use for it anymore because i already graduated, but i still want other DREAMer's to be able to achieve their education goals so they can afford their tuition fees.
