That can only happen with a visa and the Congress forgiving unlawful presence.

WCCO) — A Minnesota Republican is pushing forward legislation that aims to protect DACA recipients.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive order granted temporary legal status to those who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. Paulsen’s legislation would guarantee five years of protection when any DACA recipient takes a certain pathway, which includes enrolling in higher education, joining the military and getting a job.

Rep. Erik Paulsen says five years of protection would give them time to apply for citizenship.

Representative Paulsen says he hopes to have a bill on the president’s desk by the beginning of next year.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and other top congressional leaders will meet with the President Thursday afternoon to discuss ways to keep the government funded.
This. Schumer is not an idiot. Let’s see what today brings.

Schumer on Tuesday downplayed the likelihood of a shutdown by telling reporters, “We don’t think we’re going to get to that.”

And while he has given White House hopefuls in his caucus leeway to talk tough on immigration, behind the scenes sources say he has told nervous colleagues that it’s off the table.

“The Democratic leaders who are negotiating aren’t talking about shutdown,” said one Democratic senator.

Still, immigrant rights advocates are ramping up pressure on Democrats to take a tough stand.

Agreed, we need to add pressure to him . That’s why I’m more worried about the senate than the house.
