I like how Jorge Ramos mentioned that he'll be checking progress on immigration reform. It sounds like a teacher giving a student a long term project.

Are they really fighting for dream or are they fighting for themselves? There is nothing selfish about us wanting dream to be passed separately from cir.

There's no rule saying you can't fight for both Dream and CIR. Just like health care advocates fight for both S-CHIP and universal health care, we can fight for both Dream and CIR. After all, most Dreamies probably have family members that can be helped by CIR.

Dream can give momentum to CIR and show that an immigration victory can be won. That was one of the arguments used against Dream when they kept saying because CIR failed, people don't want amnesty etc. etc. and Dream is amnesty too. The energy from a victory can be used as momentum for the next fight.

I also agree with you but then again I know that if us DREAMers get legalized our parents would be happy with that and we would be able to help our parents and since our voice would count then we'd be able to help all those other immigrant groups too.

To be honest with you, if CIR is really coming up by September, will senators really want to bring the DA as a standalone bill? I'm not talking about introducing it, but actually putting on the calendar to debate it as a standalone bill. I want that to happen, but wouldn't they just think we can attach it to CIR later in the year? To them, would 5-7 months is a big deal? I'm am by no means an expert, but this just something to consider. It may still come up alone, I don't know.

Still, the good news is they will probably try to attach it to some sort of education bill. That ICHIA part of the SCHIP bill is very good news for immigration provisions being attached onto bills. (Sad thing about the ICHIA battle is it is only for legal immigrants, and Republicans are totally against it.) I really do think this could be a good way to go, and what Durbin may ultimately try.

The reason why I say this is the fact that it is no longer CIR only as it was in 2007. It is CIR-DREAM Act. Constantly, I have noticed that a lot of immigrant groups are mentioning them apart. That is good. That means some senators and groups have finally noticed the bill in its own light.

DREAM will come before any other CIR bill, Reid damn well know that CIR does not stand a chance this year. DREAM and AgJob will be use this year as a place holder for CIR later in Obama presidency.

Actually,Dream act didn't come to the floor until the 'Grand compromise' failed earlier in 2007.Comprehensive groups who had insisted on the big bill were trying to resuscitate the bill when a series of "bad amendments" were passed on the compromise forcing Republicans to kill the bill. Now that Democrats are in charge with more than a sizable majority in the Senate,I fully expect the dynamics to be a bit different from the last time CIR was debated, but politics has a way of giving people the shaft at the last minute sometimes.

However, since the Republican anti-immigrant groups are now a bit wary, this could be the chance necessary to enact something if the appropriate action is taken within a meaningful time period.

“You see? We’ve got a bad economy that’s getting worse -- and the only way to fix that is to give amnesty to 20 million illegal immigrants!” exclaims Simcox.

“If S. 9 gets through the U.S. Senate -- and who’s going to stop it, unless millions of Americans whip them into line again -- it’s a sure bet that it will be pushed hard in the U.S. House by Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and the rest of the pro-amnesty ‘leaders’ of the Democrats there,” argues Simcox. .......

............Simcox also warned that a recent meeting at a hotel on Capitol Hill, attended by a group of influential leaders in the Latino community, did not augur well for safeguarding the borders.
