Awaiting the CBO's analysis desperately.
What makes you think this is the final? No one even expected the new DA to be introduced this election year especially by a GOP made Rubio. 2007 and 2010 and now DA is back again.

Democrats will most likely take back the House this November which means Pelosi would then be the majority speaker again and that means it is time for Durbin's DA. Either way, DA is going to pass. The question is:

Will it be Rubio's DA or Durbin's?

So if Rubio's DA passes, he will have to manipulate some military requirements in order to let us join.
The military requirements aren't too hard to get past. 10 U.S.C. 504(b) states that people have to be citizens, nationals, permanent residents, or other aliens:

Quote:
Notwithstanding paragraph (1), the Secretary concerned [DoD, for Army, Navy, Marines, or Air Force, or DHS, for Coast Guard] may authorize the enlistment of a person not described in paragraph (1) if the Secretary determines that such enlistment is vital to the national interest.
When they publish regulations to implement the DREAM Act or Rubio's bill in the Federal Register, they'd make clear that the DoD and DHS interpret 10 U.S.C. 504(b)(2) to include DREAM Act or Rubio beneficiaries.

Well, there are already other conditional permanent residency statuses in the law books. I believe that when you marry a USC/LPR you have conditional LPR for 2 years. If you are still married (or in some cases divorced, but with good reason) after 2 years it gets bumped up to an unconditional LPR.

I bet you that they'd actually pass the DA without any mention of a paragraph like this.

I hate to be a cynic but:

a) pass a bill that on the surface is a great humanitarian action
b) get votes
c) ??? (here ??? is get elected)
d) bill doesn't actually help anyone, sit back and laugh

We're only guilty of wanting relief. It's obvious they will use our cause as a incentive for Hispanic voters, or a political weapon aimed to discredit Democrats, but just maybe it will come out, and just maybe it won't be so bad. It's best to talk about it from all sides.
