There is no deadline now thanks to the 9th circuit. Previously it was get something done before people start expiring en masse. Right now it's all the time in the world, Schumer can hold the government underwater for as long as he wants.

Schumer fighting for other issues besides only immigration is a good approach, that way hardliners will not say that the shutdown is solely based on immigration
Good job Chuck! Now its a matter of holding the line until republicans bring a serious immigration bill on the floor for a vote along with other bills. They can do these bills individually during shutdown time

That's if the Supreme Court doesn't side with the DOJ and halts it in the next coming weeks.

People that were expiring shortly after might have just gotten started on their apps. -and who knows if they're going to be stalling.

But the lawmaker warned that the party would be divided by a government funding deal that gave Democrats a variety of concessions on fiscal issues but did not protect immigrants exposed by the repeal of DACA.

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.), a leading player in the immigration talks, said a spending bill that does not help Dreamers would not end the standoff.

A bipartisan group of moderates met in the office of Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) later in the day to discuss a deal to reopen the government that could be presented to Republican and Democratic leaders.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who voted for the four-week stopgap measure on Friday and faces reelection in a state Trump carried by 42 points, told reporters that the group of moderates hope to present a plan to leaders on Sunday.

He said that as many as 18 or 19 senators may sign onto the proposal.

“We’re trying to see if we can talk to the leadership on both sides and tell them what we think is a path forward,” Manchin told Bloomberg News.

He said that immigration would have to be “part of the package.”

So question, can republicans keep bringing up votes even though they don't have them? Like the one they're doing at 1 am?

When I went to speak with my senator at DC, she basically told me the strategy the Democrats are sticking with. Basically, they realize to get the Dream Act through (or any reasonable DACA fix) they MUST pair it with other stuff. It seems now that her words are starting to bear fruit. To summarize it, both sides (Rs and Ds) want to protect Dreamers, but obviously some of the people that vote Republican do not want us here. With that being their base, Democrats plan to lump the spending bill, CHIP, military spending, Dream Act, and funding for Veterans together into one big thing that can help deflect some of the heat Republicans will get from their base. Basically allowing Republicans to say "Oh, well, you see I had no choice to vote on this bill" and that will keep their base happy and we hopefully get Dream Act. I hope it works.
