I also recall reading and hearing that both the STARS Act and ARMS Act were Senators Rivera's idea not Rubio's. That being said Rubio was coming up with his own little version of the Dream Act which he only mentioned very little of and that it would be revealed this summer. Okay, yea I get it coming up with a bill might take a lot longer than that. However, nothing was ever presented and once DACA was announced Rubio said he would not present his idea. This made me believe that the man never had anything and was just talking to appeal to voters. Also, I don't like the idea that it would not lead to a special pathway to citizenship. Why should we have to pay for the Amnesty Reagan signed back when he was President? That was Amnesty the DREAM Act is not.

This is something he said about the DREAM Act and he's not the only one saying such things:
Quote:
Mr. Rubio warned of the consequences. “The Dream Act is too broad,” he said. “It could lead to these kids bringing in multiple relatives.”
As far as I know the DREAM Act does not allow that. Not even to petition our own parents.

He just like other politicians has also gone around criticizing the President saying that DACA is just a short term fix and that we need a long term fix. NO DUH?! That's why we need the DREAM Act. As far as Democrats not talking about bringing it up again well that's because they know it will be hopeless since they have absolutely no support from the other side and it's election year.

The only way the original DREAM Act will pass is through a congress dominated by DA-friendly Democrats. Expect an alternative. Republicans no way in hell will touch the DREAM Act now that it has been demonized. Rubio and other GOP legislators will not change there mind. Expect an alternative compromise bill post-2012.

Agreed. Rubio claimed he was going to bring the DREAM Act to us, but he never had one to begin with. He kept stalling for time and then he lost. It was more or less a way for him to pander with both the moderates of his party (Since parties have to appeal to independents by moving to the center) and the Latino vote.

And Congress just went to a long recess by not even getting a single bill passed last month (August?). So yes, they would not have gotten anything done regardless since the obstruction is too great and on top of the election year.

Well, first you gotta remember that nobody has an "obligation" to help us. They don't. It'd be nice if they did but they don't.

Now that that's out of the way, the president had healthcare as his priority. Maybe it's because his mother died of cancer so it was something important to him. He's the president and that's his right. On the immigration front, sure he didn't do much for the first 3 years, but he also didn't make things worse.

He changed the policy to focus more on criminals than people not hurting anybody. The last guys made things worse. GW, started the whole Real ID business and the reason why many of us lost our driver's licenses. I want to blame the states for it, but if it wasn't for Real ID, they wouldn't have been pressured to do so. Even one of my favorite Presidents, Clinton screwed us over with the 1996 law that added the 10 year penalty and took away certain provisions to help readjust our status.

So could Obama have done more? Sure, but he is the president of the whole country and not just the Dreamers. Were there political pressures to do something like DACA? Yes, but he did something that nobody else had done. Do I wish it included me in it? Yes of course.

2nd term presidents get much more done usually.

I am sorry you could not be included in DACA, but hopefully the dream act will include a wider range of age, because I know many Dreamers are older, and got here after the 1986 amnesty or many who got here before, but didn't apply because their parents did not do it for them. It is sad, but I like your hopeful views on this.
