This. I love Durbin, but no doubt the original bipartisan proposal was too liberal.

Trump's offer is too conservative. We all know there has to be concessions on both sides, and there is also a point where the concession is too much. This will obviously differ between individuals and I don't see why we can't have a real discussion about it instead of attacking each other.

I don't disagree. Both cater to the extremes.

Only person I would trust is Durbin everyone else not so much. WH purposely dropped this framework because they know that dems and some repubs would never vote for this no matter how negotiations go. In the end they can say they tried but Dems didn't want to give us relief. Why all of a sudden when midterms is around the corner Repubs want to act like they care? Don't you guys find it weird that Perdue, Grassley, Cotton and all other anti-Immigration people are supporting this bill?

I wouldn't say they cater to the extremes equally, but it can be argued that Durbin's bill could have added more wall/border security money. Besides that I don't see how any of it was extremely liberal.

What does that line mean? My mom is being petitioned by her USC sister. Her I-130 has been approved and has now waited 8 years, with around 6 more to go. Will she be ok?

He’s already said though that he’s willing to compromise. And unlike Durbin’s bill, this isn’t the final draft. I’m not sure why people panicked as if it was already making its way to the Senate for a vote. We might not agree with everything that’s on this bill but it’s a better start than the Goodlatte bill. The key here is for both parties to find some common ground. Democrats also need to stop negotiating through the media. We are never going to get anywhere. I understand they are trying to win the public relations fight, but this is bigger than that.

All applications already in process will be grandfathered in, meaning your mom will be ok. This will just help out the backlogs, meaning it will help them catch up with cases that have taken a very long time to process.

We’ll see what happens over the weekend. I just feel like there’s a gulf in-between what both sides are willing to accept. I just hope that at the end something gets done, at least bridge act + border security — but even that seems far fetched to me right now.

I don't stand with Durbin. He is playing politics. His bill also involved concessions. For any who agree with me, call his office and him to cut the crap.
