I have a friend who stayed in El Salvador for only 2 weeks. He didn’t have DACA or any sort of legal status before.

Original documents of those submitted to the NVC. Basically, anything you submit to the NVC are copies. You'll need to bring the originals to the interview.

Shouldn't it be just for few hours to get to the interview on time and then return home the same day? Was he able to return? I am assuming he was approved for I-601A?

The interview is only a few minutes. When a person is approved for an immigration visa, the US consulate keeps the immigrant's passport where they'll put the visa information. Then, the passport is mailed back to the immigrant to take to the nearest/convenient point of entry for the official passport stamp by CBP.

So, it does take few days for the whole process.

^^ Not to mention all the other crap you have to do PRIOR to the interview. I was gone for three weeks, which was too much, but I was touring Colombia since I had never been there before and it was my first time leaving the country in such a long ass time.

The interview doesn’t take long from what he has said. He went there a week ahead to also get his medical exam done before the interview. Yes, he was able to return and he has a green card. However, he has a strong case with a child and being the breadwinner.

Question for all who have applied, were you required to submit a police certificate on the NVC website? Did you do a FBI background check? It didn’t ask us for one. It just says all required documents completed and approved. Does my husband need to bring it to the interview?

A police certificate is not needed until the interview.

Thanks. What about the background checks? Is it from your local police in the state you live or the overall FBI background check?

I had to submit police records (or clearance records) from every state in which i have lived since turning 16.

I submitted copies and will need to bring the originals to the interview.
