This threading should be deleted immediately. We are taking the bait here. This is just another Obama administration conspiracy to keep immigrant voters interested. The "good news" will come when the election is near. It will be somewhere along the lines of "Obama will pass Dream Act within first 100 days of office in his second term"

Durbin has never made an announcement like this regarding DREAMers and DHS as far as I can remember. We will just have to wait and see. I do hope Durbin didn't make this announcement of an announcement only for it not to occur until months later because that would be cruel and if anyone has compassion for us, it is is Durbin.

If the Democrats wanted to push for CIR/DA on the floor, they could have done it. Any kind of Immigration reform face steep uphill in both the senate and the house - that's a given! But so did the healthcare reform and the debt ceiling madness.

They wanna play games with our lives. I trust the demo-rats as much as I trust the GOPigs.

I agree the Democrats should have pushed for CIR/DA and that it would never pass in this political climate - but this article is about an announcement by DHS not Congress.

The U.S. president, Barack Obama, denied on Monday roundtable DAY executive have the power to stop categorically deportation of undocumented students who would benefit from passage of the DREAM-Act.
This despite the fact that pro-immigrant organizations and civil rights, and even members of Congress and immigration officials say otherwise.

"It is not. It is not part of my authority. "
In the roundtable also took a select group of journalists from major U.S. Hispanic media, including La Opinion, Impremedia, Miami Herald and Washington Hispanic.
I used google translate so the translation might not be exact.

Calling Congress “dysfunctional,” senior Obama administration officials are urging all 50 states to seek a waiver exempting them from requirements under the 2002 “No Child Left Behind” education law.

The administration on Monday detailed plans to bypass Congress and grant states more flexibility to avoid onerous penalties if they fail to meet the standards set by the landmark George W. Bush-era initiative.

The announcement is a slap at a congressional inaction and a recognition by the Obama administration that a bipartisan overhaul of No Child Left Behind is not likely anytime soon.

Duncan said the administration wanted Congress to pass a new education law before it left for its August recess.

“But it hasn’t, and we can’t afford to wait,”
Duncan said at a White House briefing.

“Right now Congress is pretty dysfunctional,” he added. “They’re not getting stuff done.”

So......if this halt of deportations for dreamers where to happen, (which I highly doubt considering Obama keeps dening his power to do so) Would we be able to free roam around the country without getting in trouble? Obviously following all other laws and stuff. What do you guys think?

Durbin wouldnt get our hopes up for nothing. Its a major news and its not coming from Durbin, its coming for DHS. DHS being department of homeland security, so its most likley halting deportations.

Whats the benefit ofnot being deported if we are basically trapped. I have a ms degree sitting in a drawer. Yes, I will not be deported but Im still sitting on my ass. Without being productive. Its bs.
