Hey guys,

I have some serious questions.

I am a MAVNI reserve future soldier.

I enlisted and took an oath on April, 2016 as a Army Reserve and I just received the ship date for basic combat training (BCT).

My recruiter scheduled me to go to the MEPS for inspection before I ship on March 1st, 2018.

My concern is that I recently got severely injured my lower back/hip area while I was working out and going through a terrible nerve pain.

I absolutely want to go to the BCT but I also do not want to be holdover at BCT or fail BCT or be injured more.

I am going to take my doctor's note and x-ray to MEPS to see what they say about this.

If MEPS doctor think that I will not make it through BCT, Will I get discharged or separated?

Will it going to be Entry Level Separation (Uncharacterized Discharge), since I haven't gone to BCT and it hasn't been more than 180 days of active duty service.

Let's say he did, would he be able to keep his citizenship even with an ELR?

He should, but I would reconsult with a lawyer tho.

Talk to your recruiter and see if your remaining DEP allows to get a later shipdate to help you recover. If your injury is not permanent.

As far as I know, all the medically discharged MAVNIs kept their citi, but that was during AIT or after AIT.

Actually, youre going to MEPS to reupdate your physical right? If so, the doctor on call will make the determination of your condition. Whether its a permanent DQ or less. Good luck with everything.

What would happen if I submit the N400 application now and it's processed, but is not complete by the time I get to Basic training? Would there be any complications/further delays?

And thanks everyone for your replies!
