We want to apply as soon as possible because we're looking to buy a home and I need to be a resident to apply for the loan of the house.
I would wait a couple months just be safe, and yeah the AP clears your EWI. Good luck man.

You can apply as soon as you have all the required paperwork. Mainly the medical exam, sponsorship and marriage certificate.

My wife and I got married this last Nov 15 and applied on the week of Dec. 8th. A Couple years ago they actually required that you wait 3 months married before applying but now you can apply as soon as you have the marriage certificate and proof in HAND (Which usually takes about a week).. And YES, leaving the US and coming back Legally clears your EWI.

I assume a new card would be given if AP is not approved in time.

If you get EAD/AP combo card via AOS to USC. Can you travel outside the country for vacation purposes? or does it have to be humanitarian, employment, education related?

You can travel once you get your AOS parole without any reasons. Its less risky than DACA parole but there is always a risk when your using an AP. If I were i would wait for the green card unless its an emergency.
