Interesting read by Cato Institute:

Quote:
The Cotton-Perdue bill would not create a skills-based immigration system as President Trump has said he wants, it will not increase American wages, and it is not a credible bargaining chip in any future negotiations in Congress.* Interestingly, the current U.S. immigration system is gradually selecting a higher proportion of skilled immigrants over time without Congressional reform.* The Cotton-Perdue bill deserves to be criticized but it is not a serious threat that should gain concessions from Congressmen or Senators in both parties who either support immigration reform or the current level of admissions.

Republicans always seem to target family immigration rules for whatever reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started proposing quotas on Naturalization as well. Ridiculous!

Does this mean that any petition that was already filed will suddenly becomes invalid or is it going forward?
I doubt it will be cancelled if pending whether it is I-130 or I-485. This is my speculation though.

Instead of waiting 5 years, you might have to wait 10 years until a slot become available for your petition.
This would make it faster since less applicants are applying too?

Honestly, we shouldn't want DA (or any other bill) attached to this! This bill is horrible, essentially eliminating the whole family program. US citizens won't be able to petition parents, Parents won't be able to petition children over 21. I'm all for taking baby steps towards legalizing the 11 Million (as in, if necessary, DREAM passed first then using momentum for CIR) but I WILL NOT allow others to be thrown under the bus just so I can get a GC.
For those that support this bills passing, you realize how many families are simply waiting for theirs kids to turn 21. Or DREAMers waiting for their priority date because they "aged-out" of a family petition and are over 21. You're willing to throw them all under the bus?
There are better ways to pass DA, and I know Dems and most Repubs will not fall for this atrocity of a bill.

Totally agree.

But, are you sure that with this bill US Citizens will not be able to petition parents?

They can only sponsor parents if their parents are elderly and in need of care taking. But, the parents won't receive a green card, in stead they will receive a renewable temporary visa that will make them ineligible to work, access public benefits, and their children would have to provide health insurance for them.
