You get it.

Yeah, I had a class in college that covered inspirational leaders. The class covered everyone from Hitler to MLK. Both were highly inspirational, emotional leaders in the sense that they could rile up the masses. Ideologically, though, total opposite.

Exactly.

I obviously do not agree with what Hitler did, but i now understand why he did it.

That was the whole point of reading that book. It helped me understand.

Hitler turned white people against each other. You think Trump wasn't going to be able to exploit "othering".

This is to all the people that claim white supremacy includes white argentinians and European dreamers.

White supremacy is patriarchal, Christian and white (American)

But with the attitude you have towards white people you make it seem like it is European dreamers and white Argentinians =(

I think when Eva speaks about white supremacy as an institution, its not so much about blaming white folks because of their privilege. Its more about them not recognizing that people of color, minorities are subject to systemic racism. System racism does not mean you, specifically, are racist. Or that by having some white privilege you, by definition, are racist it just means this country was not built to benefit all people. It was specifically built and designed to benefit white men exclusively, over the years we've made sufficient progress to include white women and to some extent some male minorities. But overall we're still left with a system where by default people of color and minorities will have a harder time reaching similar milestones than their white counter parts.

As a side note, I think its completely ok to call out 'white' minorities on their privilege. Myself included, I am Chilean, and I know that if I'm walking down the street I have a lower probability of being subject to discriminatory practices than my darker-skinned friends/family. In states where " show me your papers" is used rampantly by the police force, it is not incorrect to generalize that European DREAMers are safer and will not be targeted. I think its all about recognizing and accepting that even though we are undocumented and are a minority we can, in some instances like white latino or European DREAMer, still be systemically privileged. And that once we recognize our own privileges, its our responsibility to make sure we contribute to changing the systemically racist design.

Yes, exactly. Well said.

Unfortunately racism is not a departure of American ideals, but rather a true expression of them. There's still a lot of work to do.

Obama's presidency highlighted these issues, and Trump's presidency for sure is making us all engage and address these matters head on.

I think this is what you were trying to say.
