Let's say the Democrats get rid of the filibuster right now... They can pass everything they've been waiting to pass - Dream Act, CIR, Statehood for DC and PR, Expand the SCOTUS, pass gun control etc. etc. etc.

Two things might happen: Maybe the fears of the chicken wing of the party become true and they lose the Senate and/or House. Can Republicans pass legislature to undo those things? No because Biden can still veto it and there is no way in hell that both houses at that point will be 2/3 Republican.

So WORST case, we get the Dream Act immigration reform, and everything that have been blocked by Republicans in the last 20 years and get to keep them for 4 years by which time, you can't all of a sudden revoke legal status for 15 million people, remove statehood, etc.

But maybe, just maybe, this will energize the Democrat base and moderates and they won't lose congress. Maybe they might just lose one house and still be better off than they would have been if they had done nothing. Sometimes you just gotta go for it.

The more likely scenario is that they WILL lose congress if they don't get shit done while they have the chance.

I guess what they're thinking of and what we're not thinking of is: what happens when Rs have control of the Senate, House, and Presidency again? They only need 50 of their guys in the Senate to unleash hell.
