Rally for the DREAM Act! Our Mission: Convince KBH!
Join us for a rally outside the office of Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, 300 East 8th Street (8th and Trinity) this Thursday, December 2 from 2PM-6PM.
Each year, 55,000 students graduate from U.S. high schools without the opportunity to realize their dreams because they lack a social security number. Hundreds of these students attend the University of Texas, and many others have already graduated. Many of our fellow longhorns are depending on us, and are depending on the DREAM Act. These students may sit next to you in class, may be in your fraternity or sorority, may be your best friend.
On the news, we have seen DREAM-eligible students and their allies organizing across the country. They have hosted vigils, sit-ins, rallies, and have even gone without food for weeks to bring attention to their plight. They have put themselves at risk by publicly outing themselves as undocumented students.
It is our turn in Austin, as Longhorns, to stand alongside them. If the DREAM Act doesn’t pass this year, many of our fellow students will have to continue to put their lives on hold. We might not have a chance for another vote on the DREAM Act for years. This is it! Let us send a clear message, that here in Texas we care about our fellow students, no matter what their status.
