Reid claims he has votes for reform

It is tough to believe whom is right on the immigration issue but I think the Congressional body it is suppose to get through should take precedence. However, the President is still the key to any successful pathway for reform & so far has not publicly advocated for reform except at mainly Hispanic events.Anyway,Reid reiterates yet again that he has the votes for reform.
Quote:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said once again Tuesday that he has the votes to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

The only problem is finding floor time — and the political will in the Senate — to dig in on such a heated issue again.

“What is impeding comprehensive immigration reform is any floor time to do it,” Reid told reporters. “I think we have the floor votes to do it
.”

Reid said he had recently spoken with senior White House adviser Pete Rouse about his desire for a detailed immigration reform bill and that he was confident his views had been passed on to President Barack Obama.

Obama has expressed his commitment to comprehensive immigration reform, and on Thursday he will host a group of House members and senators to discuss how to move a bill forward.

But, with a full schedule of health care reform, a climate change bill and a Supreme Court nomination already crowding the agenda, Republicans are skeptical that an immigration bill would be coming in the near future.

“We’ve got a pretty full plate already,” Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday, noting that there had been little discussion of immigration reform in the Senate GOP conference.

Sen. John Cornyn told reporters that Republicans wouldn’t be able to tackle the issue until the White House had unveiled a immigration reform plan — and that there wasn’t one there yet.

“What we need is a plan from the president of the Untied States
,” Cornyn said.

So, that's the excuse they are using this week - no floor time.
I wonder what it will be next week?

Its the White House. Obama needs to take up some initiative.

Sen. Majority Leader Reid has always supported immigration reform and has said that immigration reform is the third priority behind health care and energy. He's been one of the most vocal political leaders calling for an immigration debate, and the mean spirited comments towards him are really uncalled for.

Shame on you.

Uh, Senator Reid has been pretty consistent about the timing conflict.

Like CIR_DREAM said, he's always maintained that after health care and energy, immigration is next.
