NEWARK, NJ – U.S. Senator Robert Menendez along with prominent attorneys and immigrant rights activists in the New Jersey area will discuss why immigration laws and policies need to be reformed at a Saturday, March 27, 2010 panel titled “Hidden Faces: Pivotal Issues in Immigration Law and the Need for Reform.” The event will be held at Rutgers School of Law–Newark. Panelists will discuss Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) impact on immigrant communities in New Jersey and the tri-state area, the state of detention centers, the plight of undocumented immigrants, the 287G and Dream Act legislation, and current immigration reform proposals.

This event will take place less than a week after tens of thousands of immigrants marched in Washington, DC to demand immigration reform and economic justice for all Americans. The panel discussion is sponsored by the Rutgers Immigrant Rights Collective (RUIRC) and Amnesty International, Northeast Regional Office.
