I really was wondering when we'd hear from him about the craziness in Arizona. Thoughts?

Quote:
Update at 10:46 a.m. ET: Obama called on Congress to take up a new federal immigration bill:

Our failure to act responsibly at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others, that includes, for example, recent efforts in Arizona which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness which we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their community that is so crucial to keeping us safe.

He added: "If we continue to fail to act at the federal level, we will continue to see misguided efforts opening up around the country."

Obama said he has called upon his administration to monitor the Arizona efforts for any civil rights and other implications.
- USA Today

Quote:
"As a nation, as a people, we can choose a different future - a future that keeps faith with our history, with our heritage, and with the hope that America has always inspired in the hearts of people all over the world."

Further proof that Democrats will move forward with comprehensive immigration reform this year? Probably. Sure to enrage the rightwingnuttia? Guaranteed.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has until Saturday to either sign the bill into law or veto it.

Thanks to Arizona lawmakers for passing this DISCRIMINATING bill. Now, Immigration is on the national spotlight and the President himself is calling for Immigration Reform.

Its getting tense on the issue. I'm in Arizona and many students @ my high school are planning a walk-out right now against the measure. I think the president has finally noticed the need for the long needed immigration reform of the nation.

God help me, I hope and pray that CIR passes every day, but I think this AZ legislation is a blessing in disguise. Just a week ago, I had lost all hope that immigration reform had *ANY* chance of passing at all this year, or ever for that matter. Last night, Anderson Cooper had several guests, all American, urging people to boycott AZ as people will ge targeted for documentation like the Gestapo.

HOWEVER...does everyone see it now that if the legislation had been written like Schummer has been telling everyone that he's done in the last 9 months, it could have been introduced at the necessary moment?? We have been duped with conflicting messages and information "leaks" to confuse us into believing that if only the Republicans played nice, they would vote on CIR. They cannot vote what they don't have written! Now this is forcing both sides to come up with a fair solution. Funny how life works sometimes...

it will come...Obama and the Democrats can't be seen as out of touch with what is going on in this nation. there is no doubt in my mind that the climate bill will be tossed to the side for now....not with all of the country and the mainstream media looking at what is going on in AZ.
