•Immigration - There is renewed talk of immigration being the next big issue to be considered by the Senate. The outlines of a bill have been mapped out in the Washington Postby Sens. Schumer (D-NY) and Graham (R-SC) where they proposed four elements of a plan: Biometric Social Security Cards; Border Security; a temporary worker program; and, pathway to citizenship. Some argue that this may be a partisan effort to put the Senate and House on record, when leaders in Congress know it will be very difficult to pass a bill. An outline of a proposal is expected to be rolled out this week by Senator Schumer.

A bill was expected to be rolled out last Labor Day.

I only pray that this is true now.

I remember back to those days and it seems so long ago that it is like another world.

It seems that it will be "partisian" after all.
The message that I perceive from Graham is: Damned if you do & damned if you don't.

Lieberman said Monday that Graham's position means that immigration legislation is dead for the year.

“In terms of practical politics, Lindsey is the only Republican so far to say he would be willing to work on both energy-climate and immigration reform. He has also now clearly said he can’t and will not do immigration reform this year,” Lieberman said.

“I think that means we are not going to get immigration reform done this year, but we can still do energy and climate, and frankly it is about the best thing we could do to create new jobs this year by this Congress,” he added.

I hope Lieberman is wrong and other republicans step up to the plate to fill Graham's shoes.

I think Lieberman said that since he is the co-author of energy-climate bill, which will not be debated in the Congress if the Senate chooses to go ahead with the CIR.
