Sen. Lindsey Graham, the sole Republican who was working on a bill to legalize illegal immigrants, in effect put the bill on the shelf on Tuesday, saying a debate now would destroy any prospects for passage and saying the issue needs to wait until 2012.
The remarks likely signal the end of any serious chance for broad immigration legislation to pass this year, since Mr. Graham, South Carolina Republican, was the best hope for a partnership with President Obama and Democrats who want to write a bill.
"It is impossible for me and any other serious Democrat to get this body to move forward until we prove to the American people we can secure our borders," Mr. Graham told Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who was testifying at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
"I believe we can do it by 2012 if we're smart," he said.

This guy just lost his marbles on this issue. He is just playing politics on this issue and knows very well that the GOP will oppose any form of CIR in 2012 . They will then use the failure to pass CIR to pit Hispanic voters against Barack Obama.

Graham: Just shut up. Please, please shut up. If you have nothing good to contribute then get the f**k out of the way.

Dems: Why would people who voted you into office expect the opposition party to accomplish what YOU promised you'd do? Why should everyone have to wait - let alone expect - for the other party to do the things that you can do? Grow a pair. You are telling the world is useless to vote for you.

Not that I expect any one of them to see this, but you never know...

Oh, and someone needs to remind Nostradamus (Graham); he of great vision and predictions for the future, of the Dems' failure to pass health reform (NOT).

Of all the years he could claim CIR could pass, he picks 2012 - hahahahahaha...the tealiban will then really believe is the end of the world.

I'm not even thinking CIR right now, all am thinking is DREAM Act as stand alone. I don't even think we should waste our energy on CIR. Let's face it nothing has change from 4 months ago, the chances of CIR passing are slim to none.

I just want to know why 2012 and not 2011. 2012 is another election year, with the presidential election nonetheless. This guy is an idiot.

This is bullshit. 2012 and then 2016, this is totally bullshit man. they just want to keep the Latinos vote and then keep postpone this issue. come on mane face it and do something. we need this NOW, NOT 2012 or another cycles. AND what does he mean wait until border security? any prove? the poll shows, Obama administration cracked down illegal immigrates from the border than Bush administration. isn't it enough? what a idiot.
