Okk...So here's my question.. In January 2011 we're supposed to end this "Congress" and thus DA will be back to square one.. What are they waiting for!??! I mean, I know they're waiting for elections and more support and for Obama to turn white (jk)..but really.. what are the chances it could pass in the next few months? Or if it doesn't pass that it will gain enough support once they restart?

Wait a minute, you are telling me that the Dream act will have to be re-introduce , and we will have to get all those co-sponsors to sign on all over again ?

Yes, we'd need to start again from scratch. Though I don't think it would be that hard to get cosponsors again since they are becoming aware of our continuous efforts to pass this legislation.

On another note, there is still a chance that it may pass this year though it is really unclear when Reid will take the opportunity to bring it to the floor. Recently, he's said he'd look for a window of opportunity before the November elections. Other reports say maybe during the lame duck session but that would be an even slimmer chance because of the inherent nature of that session... i.e. nothing much really happens.

Regardless of what happens we should be strengthening the movement. Join a group near you or participate in our research efforts. The November elections are near and we will need to call offices again to see how the newly elected legislators would vote on the Dream Act as standalone.

There are going to be 2 attempts before 2011.

Some way they will try before November if he gains consensus that CIR has no chance. I believe Reid said this.
Another attempt was intended to come during the lame duck session. (Forgot who)

In 2011, getting cosponsors will be easy, but bringing it to the floor and getting 60 votes will be the challenge. VP Biden indicated no more tough legislation in 2010, administration (afaik) indicated that in 2011 immigration would get a big push from Obama.

The big story will be Nov, and how the elections pan out.

Well here is how I see this whole DREAM Act thing most likely playing out, as of right now the chances of it passing this year are not even 50/50. We already know we can forget about anything happening in the next 2 weeks before the August 9. recess, now that brings us to September 13. when they return. We will have one last chance when they return in September to get this pass, if it doesn't pass before November 2. we can forget about it for 2010. All this talk about it standing a chance of passing during a "lame duck" congress after the elections is nonsense, the simple answer is that it ain't going to happen. If Republicans take control of the house and gain in the senate we can forget about DREAM or CIR in 2011, cause if Harry Reid can't get the votes to pass it now when his party is in control I don't see how see going to get it when more Republicans are in congress next year.

I don't think we can expect Reid to pass it simply because we have the majority. Majority is not enough, we need to consider the reality on the ground which is blue dog Democrats, and aggressive, filibustering, party-of-no Republicans.

I don't blame Reid for this problem. He didn't ask for it. It's Obama. Ever since he took office, he has been the lightning rod that united Republicans against the Democrats. "We gotta hurt Obama as much as we can." is what they're goal is, even if it means hurting the American people.

Just because the Republicans are anti-immigrant doesn't mean they won't support DA/CIR in one form or another, because the people want immigration reform. So they have to tackle it one way or another.

We just have to hope that any attempt to hijack comprehensive reform and turn it into attrition or enforcement-only gets blocked.

Every single thing you just said is kinda contradictory, first you can't put Republicans, anti immigrant and support DA/CIR in the same sentence then say you hope enforcement-only effort gets blocked when Republicans are the main ones hijacking comprehensive reform.

Harry Reid is not the only one to be blamed but he's the main one, he's the "majority leader" it's his job to see to it that hearings on DA are held and that mark ups are done in committees and that a date is set for debate on the floor.

It won't pass in the next few months regardless of what any pundits or any politician says. The democrats are afraid of a united Republican front with unlimited amounts of advertising money from the tea party crowd. Even if on TV they seem confident, democrats know they will lose seats. They may possibly lose the house. The president is a spineless lame duck puppet. He is driving the economy deeper into the ground, the war in Afghanistan is slowly turning into a Vietnam debacle.

Republicans aren't so much anti-immigrant as they are more anti Obama. Obama is the spark that lighted the fire under the republicans feet. They will vote as a unit to show the public that Obama is a failure while at the same time not proposing anything new. All they need to do is stick together and say no to anything that Obama can take credit for. They have been successful so far, and will continue to be. Republicans govern when they are the majority, and they rule when they are the minority.

The president hasn't done a good job in front of the american public making his case that he can't pass legislation due to republican opposition. At this time it's looking like republicans will make gains in both chambers.

As much as I hate to say this as aside from Immigration I sympathize with Republicans, if they gain the majority in the house and/or make gains in the senate, goodbye Immigration reform.

in my opinion, Obama has already lost the battle... people are packing up themselves and leaving town ASAP even BEFORE the SB1070 law becomes effective. showing Americans that enforcement DOES work!... people now say "hey the beaners are leaving themselves, no money spent on air tickets or bus rides, lets all follow that model"... i must admit that the enforcement strategy is working (not that i like it).. and the argument "but they never been back home, they have contributed, its soo sad".. get it in your headsssssssssssssssssssss THEY DONT GIVE A SHYT about sob stories... this country only helps when it finds an interest and when their own belly is full first... they tried to throw their OWN fellow citizens under the bus when it came to healthcare reform. Obama will lose big time, he will lose votes from the same people that voted him in... he tuned into shyt... the dumb hope and change and the watering down of health care and financial reform.

hes a bitch... stop pandering to the same crowd that wants to destroy u... U GOT ELECTED, THE "AMERICAN" PEOPLE KNEW WHAT UR POLICIES WERE GOING TO BE BEFORE-HAND... AND THEY VOTED FOR U BY A MAJORITY (KEY WORD"... GENERAL ELECTIONS ARE THE BIGGEST POLLS... ANY OTHER POLLS AFTER THAT IS TRASH...

people here need to stop being head over heels in this DA bill. and these LaRaza organizations are full of crap.. in all the gatherings and the protests in DC ive been to, these fuckers only spent 5 min on DA... and the rest of the time they spent coming up with sob stories.......... BOB the driver wants to make $20 /hr to drive a dumptruck... fking moroans if they wana make $20/ hr then why the fuck am i paying money of my life to get a damn degree. this country is backwars... with Joe wanting to make $30 hr for changing a tire at GM motors... it makes young kids not persue college.. and rather jump into the work field and make the cash that they once would've made; minus 6 yrs of college.
