Durbin did great, Reid not so much. At this point I actually believe this was pretty much a political ploy by Reid to get some votes in November. How can the majority leader not know if he has the votes for such 2 controversial issues? I highly doubt there is any real animosity between the 2 parties such that everything is kept in secrecy until the last moment, it's just not how the world works. They all just want to keep their seats, and they hardly care about anything else.

Sen. Bennett(R-Utah) made a fairly reasonable argument, and he actually has nothing to lose because he is not going to be a part of the next Congress. Don't throw all the controversial amendments into one bill and then expect people to vote on the whole thing. How stupid can you be? If 20 people oppose amendment A and then another 20 people oppose amendment B, you are losing people on both sides. On the other if you presented them in separate fashion you could technically pass both bills/amendments, because the two issues don't have to be interdependent.

This video came to mind. It's from earlier in the summer and not related to the DREAM Act, but it does speak to our frustrations. Although it's from the House, Weiner takes a shot at the Senate.

WOW, I don't know the full context of the situation Weiner is in but if he was really genuine and believed every word he said, we need more people like him in the Congress.

This video and the words of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator Dick Durbin give me hope. Hope for a better tomorrow and hope for better life. Isn't it funny how we have alway's been a few votes away
